CANADIAN PONY BREEDERS SHOW 1966 - 1992
The original Canadian Pony Breeders Show ran from 1966 - 1992 at various locations from Jokers Hill to Richmond Hill and Aurora Fairgrounds. It was operated by the Pony Breeders Show of York Region and the organizers and sponsors lists read like a who's who of the Ontario pony and equine world. The show benefited C.A.R.D. - Canadian Association of Riding for the Disabled in York Region
In chatting with some of the people involved in past shows they were all about good wholesome fun where participants could prove their natrive British ponies breeds and all-breed ponies. A quote from the 1982 Prize List confirms this, "The purpose of this show is to encourage Breeders to produce quality, substance and manners, in both the purebred and crossbred pony, and to bring to the attention of Canadians, the importance of the use of good breeding stock.". A better motto couldn't have been stated.
The BRITISH NATIVE PONY BREEDS are defined as Shetland not over 44", Dartmoor, Welsh Sec. A. not over 12.2 hands, Welsh Sec. B not over 14.0 hands, New Forest, Connemara, Dale, Fell, Exmoor, Welsh Cob and Highland, not over 14.2 hands. Ponies showing in classes for their own Breed should be shown in a manner appropriate to that Breed. They must be registered in a Registry recognized by the Canadian Dept. of Livestock Records. These breeds now comprise the Mountain & Moorland divisions.
The 1992 Prize List has classes for Welsh (all sections) breeding, Pony Hunter (open) breeding, Welsh Driving, Open Driving, Pony Club Mounts, the Cookie Circuit (leadline, walk-trot and short stirrup), Pleasure Division (flat and over fences), and Hunter (Green and Open). These 2-day shows had no under saddle classes for adult riders.
In 2013, Pony Breeders of Canada and Pony Breeders of Ontario will be joining together to host the revived Canadian Pony Breeders Show under the name Eastern Canadisan Pony Breeders Show with more divisions, more breeds, more disciplines - stay tuned for updates.

In order to move to the present and future we must learn how things were done in the past and celebrate those honoured.

While researching the CPBS Hall of Fame Ponies, I came across the Jump Canada Hall of Fame Inductees, one pony overlaps.
